Your Child's Eyes by Dr. Gary Goberville When should your child have their first eye exam? Most people are surprised to know '"before the age of three". Why is it important? It is important to detect any problem such as Strabismus (eye turn) and Amblyopia (lazy eye) before it progresses. Both of these disorders are corrected with glasses or exercises. How can a child take an eye exam when they can't read? In this early exam, it is not necessary for the child to read. Shapes and images are used instead of letters. A diagnostic test called cytoplogic refraction determines the prescription without response. Is school screening important? Yes, but it does not provide enough valuable information.
